Spoilers ahead, but since you should have read volume 13 by now it’s okay. If you’ve never read any of it start now. Lots of thanks to Hi Wa Mata Noboru for the scanlations!
I’m kind of surprised Jyu became such a joking character, thought he was gonna stay Brago-esque for the rest of the series. But then you get
and you’re like …who?? Hilarious!
Really wondering how the series will end! Giller’s become the big bad undying dead. I predict Tarouza + co. are most likely gonna kick his ass in a really satisfying battle, but I’m interested in the aftermath, like how they all live from now on, how the animals (and chimeras) will get along, etc. That was one of the things I liked about Gash Bell, where they showed all the mamodo in their world in the end.
I also hope to see more of Capri and Riemu in the final battle. They’ve been on the sidelines too long! One thing I’m still wary about is if anyone major is going to die in the final volume. Gash Bell didn’t have any fateful casualties, but this manga’s a lot more mature in rating, so…
I wish a lot more people knew about this series! It’s really great. Art, humor, story, and characters are all awesome.

If you didn’t already, Animal Land has been translated up to the 12th volume (which is the second to last volume, I think). You can find it on probably any reader site. I’ve got to say, this is a must-read manga. If you’ve ever read Gash Bell, or even if you didn’t, you will enjoy Animal Land. Makoto Raiku (the mangaka) has a hilarious sense of humor, the uncanny ability to flesh out every character, and some of the most powerful scenes, as I witnessed before in Gash Bell.
Seriously, this mangaka is the best. I’ve read both Gash Bell and this, and nothing else has ever managed to make me feel so emotional. Possible spoilers, but as I was reading those uploaded volumes (all in one night), I was literally sitting here crying at all the emotion I felt. I had to wipe my nose like every five seconds or I’d be drowning in snot. I don’t know what it is about this author, but no other mangas have made me feel like this. I thought Merry dying in One Piece was one of the saddest things I’ve read, but the tears then are like a puddle compared to the torrent now.
I guess the one thing I don’t like is that it’s only 13 volumes long. Gash Bell was 30+, and it was perfect. This is great too, although I’m so sad that it’s ending this month. :(
Fantastic art, great characters, incredible world and backstories. I don’t understand why more people aren’t reading this! And read Gash Bell if you haven’t yet too! They might seem weird in the beginning, but don’t let the wackiness put you off from what later becomes a really deep and heartfelt manga.
